Dental Implants to Last a Liftime

When teeth go missing, it is important to replace them as soon as possible. In addition to their role in chewing and speaking, teeth are what keep our jawline structured correctly and without them, the jawbone begins to deteriorate. For a permanent tooth replacement option, at Sparks Family Dentistry in Sparks, NV, we offer our patients dental implants.

Dental implants are a permanent solution, meaning that when taken care of, they can last a lifetime. They are surgically implanted so that they bond with the jawbone. This process makes them the closest to a real tooth as you can get.

To begin the implantation process, we will make an incision in your gums to place the titanium implant post into your bone socket. The healing process will take three to six months; so during this time, you will wear a temporary crown for protection. Once the healing process is complete, we will place an abutment on the implant post to serve as the base for the new crown. Then, a custom dental crown is permanently bonded in place. Taking care of a dental implant is just like taking care of your normal teeth. They require routine brushing, flossing, and visits to your dentist for cleanings.

If you are looking to replace a missing tooth and want it replaced once and for all, consider dental implants. To schedule an appointment here at Sparks Family Dentistry in Sparks, NV, call our office at (773) 359-3336 or visit our website, www.sparksfamilydentistry.com

Dental Crowns for Strong, Healthy Teeth

Our teeth are meant to last us a lifetime, although sometimes decay or damage can get in the way of that. At Sparks Family Dentistry, we aim to save our patients’ teeth even if they are decayed or damaged. This is why we provide dental crowns in our Sparks, NV dental practice.

Nothing is better than your own tooth. This is why we aim to save as many natural teeth as we can before replacing them. In cases where a tooth needs restoration that a filling cannot hold, dental crowns are utilized. Dental crowns are like caps that go onto teeth to restore their strength and functionality.

To place a crown, a tooth must be reshaped, first. Your dentist will remove any decay and file the tooth into a shape a crown can fit onto. A laboratory will then create a custom crown based on impressions of your newly reshaped tooth. The lab will take few weeks to create the crown, so you will wear a temporary crown during this time. When ready, the permanent crown is cemented into place.

With good oral care, a crown can last up to fifteen years. They need to be brushed and flossed like regular teeth. Visiting your dentist for cleanings and examinations is also important.

If you are feeling consistent pain or sensitivity to a tooth, it is time for an examination. To schedule an appointment in our Sparks, NV dental practice, call Sparks Family Dentistry at (773) 359-3336 or visit our website, www.sparksfamilydentistry.com

Crown Lengthening

When damage or decay has occurred below the gum line, a crown lengthening procedure must take place to save the tooth. Here at Sparks Family Dentistry of Sparks, NV, we have saved many of our patients’ teeth by skillfully performing crown lengthening procedures.

Crown lengthening is most likely performed when there is decay below the gum line or if a tooth has broken off below the gum line. While it is often a necessary procedure, it can also be used cosmetically. Crown lengthening is the process of removing gum tissue to expose more of the tooth’s crown. This makes the lower part of the tooth accessible for restorations. Cosmetically, if someone has excess gum tissue that is covering up their teeth, making them appear short, crown lengthening can be performed to remove that excess tissue.

To begin the procedure, incisions are made to the gums. Even if only one tooth needs to be worked on, the gums around multiple teeth will be altered so that when it heals, it is still in a natural-looking line. The gums are pulled back when the incisions are made. If bone needs to be removed to reach the tooth, it will be removed at this point. The gums are then stitched together.

Whether you need crown lengthening for a functional or cosmetic purpose, Sparks Family Dentistry of Sparks, NV has the experience you trust. To schedule a consultation in our Sparks, NV office, give us a call at (773) 359-3336 or visit our website, www.sparksfamilydentistry.com.

Benefits of Teeth Whitening

Teeth stain for many reasons, including your food and drink choices, oral hygiene, and medication use. Teeth stain occurs on the surface of the tooth (extrinsic stains) or below the tooth enamel (intrinsic stains) and some people develop both types. Keeping our teeth their whitest is a lot harder than it sounds which is why Dr. Thomas Basora at Sparks Family Dentistry offers a teeth whitening service that can provide you with life-changing benefits.

Let’s face it, not all of us are gifted with a perfect set of teeth that sparkle from their whiteness. Not only does being able to show the world your pearly whites give you more self-confidence, but it projects an outward appearance of healthiness that others are attracted to. Whiter teeth are associated with a healthier lifestyle – when people have a brighter smile, they tend to smile more often and are less self-conscious while interacting with people. In addition, one of the biggest advantages of teeth whitening is that it does not have any harmful side effects on your teeth.

If you have questions about teeth whitening and how it’s done here at the office, give us a call or visit www.sparksfamilydentistry.com for more information. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Thomas Basora in Sparks, NV, call 775-359-3336.

Pediatric Sealants at Sparks Family Dentistry

We all know how much children love sugar, but unfortunately that love can turn to hate when cavities become present in the mouth. Here at Sparks Family Dentistry, we can protect your child’s teeth with pediatric sealants to prevent them from developing cavities that can eventually lead to tooth decay.

Dental sealant is a thin, plastic coating painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth to prevent tooth decay. Because of the likelihood of developing decay in the depressions and grooves of the premolars and molars, children and teenagers are candidates for sealants. Although brushing and flossing can remove food particles and plaque from smooth surfaces of the teeth, they cannot always get into all the nooks and crannies of the back teeth to remove the food and plaque. Sealants protect these vulnerable areas from tooth decay by “sealing out” plaque and food. Applying sealant is a simple and painless process. It takes only a few minutes for your dentist or hygienist to apply the sealant to seal each tooth.

If you have questions about pediatric sealants and the application process give us a call or visit www.sparksfamilydentistry.com for more information. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Thomas Basora in Sparks, NV, call 775-359-3336.
